Preventive care focus of new pet insurance company

Global animal health company Zoetis has launched Pumpkin to help owners finance routine checkups and vaccinations for their pets

A major player in the world of global animal health has now thrown its hat into the pet insurance ring.

Zoetis has launched Pumpkin Insurance Services, which offers owners monthly preventive care add-ons in addition to traditional pet insurance coverage to help ensure pets receive the routine care veterinarians typically recommend.

Specifically, the company’s “preventive essentials” plan includes:

  • for dogs: reimbursement for the costs of one annual wellness exam fee and two vaccines administered at such annual visit, as well as a discount on Zoetis’s proprietary worm, flea, and tick preventive;
  • for cats: reimbursement for the costs of one annual wellness exam fee and one vaccine typically administered at such annual visit, as well as a discount on Zoetis’s proprietary parasite preventive;
  • direct shipment of the aforementioned parasiticide medicines to a client’s home; and
  • automatic digital reminders to administer preventive medications and make appointments to schedule vaccines.

“Pet insurance is being vastly underutilized by pet owners in America today,” says the insurer’s CEO, Alex Douzet. “With Pumpkin, we are enabling pet parents to proactively prioritize the health of their pets and make the best health decisions for their animals.”
